The culture dimension of sustainability

Through culture, we explore our history as humans, where we stand today and how we can imagine the future. Already in the mid-1980s, during the work leading up to the Brundtland Commission, it was discussed whether culture could be the fourth pillar of sustainability, equal to ecological, social and economic sustainability. But it is has taken until now that the cultural dimension is starting to take place in sustainability work. UNESCO's global program for biosphere reserves, MAB, has decided that all biosphere reserves eventually will include culture in their work for a sustainable development. Vombsjösänkan is here a pioneer by including the cultural dimension as a focus area already during the candidacy years. Ung SciShop contributes to new experiences by using creative methods and to create bridges between primary schools, the university world and biosphere development.
